My husband and I were looking for a special gift for our 8 year old son and for all of us as family. We live in the Dallas area and I had checked several options but the one that caught our attention was the Gaylord Texan because was nearby, (in Grapevine, TX) and due to the variety of kids activities. We chose a package that included ICE tickets and a hotel stay which was cheaper than buying the tickets separately. Upon our arrival on December 23th the hotel was crowded but everything flowed pretty well considering the date. Our check in was smooth and we received our room 1.5 hours later but we were able to drop our luggage in custody and enjoy the hotel while we waited. Our room was located in the River Walk section, the view was to the parking lot (we didn’t choose any upgrade or balcony room which looks at the hotel grounds). It was a very quiet section and the room was pleasant and with very comfortable beds. The only thing I could tell was missing from a 5 star hotel is the make-up mirror in the bathroom. Our dinner celebration was at Zeppole Coastal Italian restaurant in the hotel, you have to make reservations to go there since it is very popular and is hard to eat there without one. My husband ordered Grilled chicken and he said it was delicious, all gourmet presentation, mine was a Cavatappi pasta with lobster and shrimp, real Italian flavors! To finish our great night we ordered the dessert called Tuscan lemon tart that was a great deal, we both loved it! If you have a sweet tooth like I do, I definitely recommend that you try this one! My son was absolutely surprised that day, we told him that we were going out to eat, that we will go to some place out of our area, so when we arrived to check in at the hotel he was shocked in a good way. He loved the activity that is Build a Bear, he made his Tinsel (a stuffed blue rain deer) which put a great big smile on his face!
We also experienced ICE, the sculptures made with ice that have a different theme each year. It is a great experience for the whole family, just make sure that you bring your thick coat, your scarf, warm hat and gloves, it is 9 degrees there and you will really freeze to death if you are not prepared. The nativity scene was my favorite piece of this exhibition! Our only son is growing too fast, this year for us Christmas was more about building memories together as a family, we never know what lies ahead but definitely we left the place with wonderful memories that will last over time! Happy Holidays!
